Taxpayers' lobby says Finland can weather recession without tax increases
16.11.2009 at 16:09
The Taxpayers' Association of Finland (TAF) said Monday that Finland could cope with the recession's aftermath without raising taxes.
The lobby added it even saw income tax rates falling thanks to rising consumption and environmental taxation.
But Heikki Niskakangas, a tax law professor at the Helsinki School of Economics, said he did not believe that the government and local councils would be able to pay back debt incurred during the recession without raising income tax rates.
"That is utterly unrealistic," he added, referring to the TAF's remarks.
